"From time to time we are asked various questions regarding our practices. We offer the following answers to some of the most frequently asked questions"

What can dental bonding do for me?

Bonding can quickly fill in ugly gaps between teeth and repair chips and cracks. Dr. Brogdon uses dental bonding to sculpt individual teeth with a special tooth-like material that looks, acts and feels like the real thing.

What about dental implants?

If you are missing one or more teeth, you'll want replacements that are as natural as possible. If dentures don't work for you, you may consider dental implants. Implants are permanently anchored into the jaw itself.  Dr. Brogdon will evaluate you to see if you are a good candidate. The implant device is inserted into the jaw and a chemical and mechanical bond is formed. The jawbone actually grows into the implant!

What are porcelain veneers?

Think of this treatment as a manicure for your smile. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are custom fitted over your natural teeth. Dr. Brogdon can change the shape, color and length of your teeth in only two visits. It looks so good you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Why have dental crowns?

The crown serves two important functions. First, it restores the appearance of your teeth and your face. If your tooth is severly decayed or cracked, we will need to restore it prior to preparing a cap. Teeth also support the muscles in our faces, so anything less than a full tooth may affect the way you look.

Second, a crown will be the same size and shape as the natural tooth. As a result, it will keep your jaw and bite aligned; it will also make sure that other teeth don't shift locations or take on a greater share of the work of biting and chewing.

What are the most common symptoms of root canal disease?

Root canal disease can manifest itself with a wide variety and combination of symptoms. Common symptoms of root canal disease include:

Lingering sensitivity to cold or hot liquids
Sensitivity to sweets
Pain upon biting
Pain that is referred from a tooth or another area such as the neck, temple, or the ear
Spontaneous toothache
Constant or intermittent pain
Severe pain
Throbbing pain
Atmospheric Pain
Postural Changes Pain
Swelling

If you have any of these symptoms, it would be wise to visit us at Brogdon Dental, because you might have root canal disease or another dental problem.

Is tooth whitening right for me?

Advanced dental techniques now provide consumers with exciting, new options for enhancing their smiles. Revolutionary methods are now available for bleaching teeth to make them sparkle!

Teeth bleaching or whitening lightens the color of teeth whether darkened from age, coffee, tea or tobacco. Its brightening effects can last up to five years after the treatment depending on your personal habits, smoking or drinking coffee or tea.

Bleaching has a higher than 90% success rate. Bleaching is tough on stains but gentle on your teeth. Results can vary depending on several factors such as teeth stained from smoking, taking certain medications, or from fluorosis, a condition occurring in the presence of too much fluoride.

We may discourage treatment if you have sensitive teeth, periodontal disease, teeth with worn enamel or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

STEPS TO A BRIGHTER SMILE

Dr. Brogdon will first examine your teeth and gums and discuss the procedure best suited to your individual needs. Any cavities or gum problem must be treated before bleaching can begin.
___________

The in-office method generally takes one to three hours and results in an immediate noticeable change.
___________

For the at-home method, special molds will be made of your teeth, used to make custom-fitting flexible trays holding the bleaching gel comfortably in your mouth.
___________

When you get your bleaching trays, you'll receive instructions about wearing them. These must be carefully followed. Only the material provided by the dentist can be safely used.
___________

After completing the treatment, your teeth will be checked by Dr. Brogdon to discuss the results.
___________

SMILE!
Your teeth will radiate a bright new look.
